Making Space for Yourself

Written By: Kaitlyn Lewis, LPC-S

August often brings heat, busy schedules, and a little exhaustion from summer fun. The dog days of summer are a reminder to slow down and give yourself permission to rest. Rest is not lazy, it is essential.

Take a look at your calendar. Are there moments you can claim just for yourself? Maybe a short walk, a few minutes journaling, or sitting quietly with a cup of tea. Even tiny pauses help your mind and body reset.

August is also a time for reflection. The end of summer invites us to look back on the past few months and notice what we want to carry forward. What brought you joy this summer? What moments taught you something about yourself?

Reflection can be simple. Take a notebook and jot down three moments that mattered to you. It can be big or small—a funny conversation, a quiet morning, a new skill you tried. Then notice what lessons or feelings you want to carry into the rest of the year.

Virtual therapy can be a space to explore these reflections more deeply. A therapist can help you unpack experiences, notice patterns, and identify what you want to prioritize moving forward.
