Immigration Assessment

Immigration Psychological Evaluations

What Is an Immigration Psychological Evaluation?

An immigration psychological evaluation (also called a psychosocial evaluation) is a formal mental health assessment used to support a range of immigration petitions. These evaluations help immigration officials understand the emotional, psychological, and mental health aspects of your case.

At Heard Counseling, our licensed clinicians provide comprehensive virtual evaluations, conducted from the privacy of your home. We collaborate closely with your immigration attorney to ensure that the evaluation aligns with your legal needs and tells your story with clarity and compassion.

Why Might I Need an Evaluation?

Immigration evaluations are often recommended or required for specific case types, including:

  • Asylum – documenting trauma, persecution, or fear of returning to your home country

  • Hardship Waivers (I-601, I-601A) – showing the emotional and psychological impact of family separation

  • VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) – describing the effects of emotional, physical, or psychological abuse

  • U-Visas and T-Visas – supporting survivors of crime or trafficking who may be eligible for protection

These evaluations can be a powerful addition to your petition. While we cannot guarantee outcomes, they often help immigration officials better understand the full picture of your situation.

What We Explore in an Evaluation

Each evaluation is customized to your case but may include discussion of:

  • Past trauma, abuse, or persecution

  • Current or past mental health symptoms, such as anxiety or PTSD

  • Family dynamics, caregiving responsibilities, and emotional connections

  • Your current living situation and future risks or challenges

  • The psychological impact of separation or deportation on you or your loved ones

Our approach is gentle and respectful. These are not tests — they are thoughtful conversations designed to help share your experiences in a safe, supportive space.
