Spring Cleaning

Written By: Kaitlyn Lewis, LPC

Spring cleaning is not just for closets and countertops. Our minds carry clutter too. Old worries, repeating thoughts, and habits that no longer fit can pile up quietly until we feel weighed down. Sometimes it is so subtle that we do not even realize it is there, like a pair of shoes shoved under the bed or a dust bunny in the corner.

Start with one small space. Maybe it is a recurring thought that makes you anxious or a story you tell yourself that no longer feels helpful. Ask yourself if it still serves you or if it is time to put it aside. Some thoughts and habits deserve to stay because they remind us of our strength, but others are ready to be released.

You can even make it fun. Write down a worry on a piece of paper, crumple it, and toss it into recycling. Notice how that tiny act of letting go makes space for clarity and ease. Virtual therapy can support you through this process. It is a safe place to talk about what you are ready to release and what you want to hold onto.

Spring cleaning your mind is not about perfection. It is about noticing, making choices, and creating space for the things that bring you energy, joy, and peace. The smallest act of care today can create space for the most meaningful growth tomorrow.
